A five-person team within the University of Michigan Health System eliminated more than 10,000 hours in redundant labor and recovered more than $3 million in Recovery Audit Contractor money in the 2015 fiscal year through operational efficiency improvements.
The Fast Analytics team, analytics specialists identified areas of improvement across the three-hospital system. Through Tableau Software, static reports were automated and the manual process of printing and shipping more than three-quarters of a million pages each year was replaced by an internal website.
The team also adopted a method called the “one hour challenge,” where it spent 60 minutes analyzing and interpreting data to find areas for improvement.
