Texas Health Resources, Premier target supply chain management

Texas Health Resources is working with Premier to launch a regional supply chain organization to improve total cost management for providers across North Texas.

The organizations have worked with each other for 20 years, and in this new initiative, they developed a regional supply chain organization to drive cost reduction and efficiencies in the sourcing of certain services and various physician preference items.


“This new regional organization will build on our two organizations’ scale, successful business models and industry insights to create a technology-enabled supply chain partnership that allows us to more effectively source certain products and services at the local level,” says Shaun Clinton, senior vice president of supply chain management at Texas Health, a not-for-profit system that provides coordinated care across its 26 hospitals.

The organization will continue to use Premier’s SURPASS purchasing program to drive compliance and scale for the purchasing of clinically efficacious products across the delivery system. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

• Tower Health in West Reading, Pa., has completed the transition of moving its various entities to the Epic electronic health records system. In doing so, it became the first Epic client to implement the most recent software enhancements. Tower Health has six hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, home health services, urgent care centers and a network of 2,000 providers across 125 sites. “A single shared EHR will bring patients’ health information from Tower Health hospitals and practices into one record, which in turn will lead to enhanced clinical decisions,” says Clint Matthews, president and CEO of Tower Health.

• Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, Miss., has gone live on the QUARC secure messaging, care team communications and mass notification software of MEDarchon. The mass notification feature will enable the organization to issue alerts, codes and other important messages across the enterprise or by team, floor or campus, says Jennifer Parker, director of information systems. “This also allows us to consolidate vendors while adding important functionality that we previously did not have,” she adds.

• John Muir Health in Walnut Creek, Calif., has contracted with Optum for technologies and services to advance delivery of high-quality, convenient and affordable healthcare to patients in the Bay area. Optum brings analytics and administrative services to help John Muir Health improve clinical and operational performance. Optum also will enhance ambulatory care coordination and utilization management.

• Yale School of Medicine is supplementing its curriculum with resources from Sharecare for virtual training and instruction of medical students. Sharecare software enables students to visualize how the body works and explore organs and systems in an anatomically accurate 3D environment. The vendor also offers the traditional cadaver lab experience and helps students learn about organ functions and the effects of diseases and treatments.
