Epic: Where will healthcare be in 2 years... 20 years?

Epic's Judy Faulkner shares insights.

Judy Faulkner, Founder & CEO of Epic worries about the lack of oversight, and privacy and security concerns as apps are widely created and yet poorly regulated. She cited a recent Steve Forbes article that cited the lack of HIPAA protection for data that patients share with apps. Recent legislative efforts are rising to counterbalance these risks. Now, Epic is looking ahead to how the healthcare industry will evolve over the next few years. That still lines up with Faulkner’s vision, which she refines and sharpens as she continues discussions with executives of its customers. “We’re really shooting to be creative, come with lots of new things that might help – that might be new to the industry,” she says.

Watch this exclusive Health Data Management interview with Faulkner, Adam Gale, CEO of KLAS Research, and Fred Bazzoli, Editor in Chief of HDM as they discuss the unique culture, vision and approach to please customers that makes Epic arguably the most impactful technology firm in healthcare.

The Chartis Group: Viewing healthcare through a new lens; a must for caregiver and organization success.

The Chartis Group's Ken Graboys shares insights.

“There is a whole panoply of challenges, but one right now is clearly workforce,” says Ken Graboys, CEO of The Chartis Group. “If you look through the workforce lens, we have more folks leaving the workforce, and for the ones that are still in it, they’ve suffered trauma over the past three years the likes of which the industry has never seen. Health systems have never had to care for their caregivers – their mental health, their spiritual health and physical health.”

In turbulent times, healthcare organizations need to place renewed emphasis on their cultures, but reinforcing that doesn’t happen in a vacuum, Graboys believes. “I think the strength of any organization’s culture, its adherence to mission is grounded in every individual that comes on board. If his or her individual mission is aligned with the collective mission, then the aggregate can be far stronger."

Watch this interview with Ken Graboys, CEO of The Chartis Group, Adam Gale, CEO of KLAS Research and Fred Bazzoli, Editor-in-Chief of HDM as they discuss the new lens that health systems need to look through to move beyond the pandemic and thrive.

Nordic Consulting, Inc.: Provider/vendor partnership – not 50-50 split but each 100% committed.

Nordic Consulting's Jim Costanzo shares insights.

"You have to earn a partnership," says Jim Costanzo, CEO of Nordic Consulting. A partnership, like a marriage, succeeds when both partners are 'all in.'

Adam Gale, CEO of KLAS Research, echoes the observations made by Costanzo and highlights some of the characteristics of strong partnerships. “A true partnership is a great position to be in, but a lot of providers are sick of vendors coming in and saying, ‘Let’s partner on this.’ They just feel like, again, it’s maybe just a one-sided partnership.”

Watch as HDM's Fred Bazzoli, Jim Costanzo and Adam Gale discuss what it takes to succeed in today's healthcare landscape. A strong culture, deep partnerships, and a clear vision are the key principles that so many organizations miss, but when executed well can be the needed edge in being prepared for the next pandemic moments to come in healthcare.

Galen Healthcare Solutions: Culture is king when counteracting healthcare’s workforce challenges.

Galen Healthcare Solutions' Steve Brewer shares insights.

As performance pressure grows, there may be little attention paid to organizational culture. But that focus is precisely what’s needed to pay long-term dividends in healthcare IT departments, and more broadly, for the organization overall. Galen balances that devotion to the greater good with an emphasis on nurturing and protecting its 100-plus workforce. “We always try to keep in mind that (our staff) are living their own lives, and we’ve got to manage that, that work-life balance,” says Steve Brewer, CEO of Galen Healthcare. “We’re in a company where we have people raising families and putting kids through school and doing all sorts of neat things in their community, in addition to the work they’re doing for our clients. So from that standpoint, culture is the key.”

Watch this interview between Steve Brewer, CEO of Galen Healthcare, Adam Gale, CEO of KLAS Research, and Fred Bazzoli, Editor-in Chief of Health Data Management as they consider the future of workforce in healthcare and the organizational principles that can not only attract the right team members, but help them stay.

CLOSEDLOOP.AI: Value-based care will catalyze providers’ tech expectations.

CLOSEDLOOP.AI's Andrew Eye shares insights.

“We predict the future so you can change it,” says Andrew Eye, CEO of ClosedLoop.ai. “At the end of the day, artificial intelligence is just good math. Our job is to predict a future event based on really good math. But at the end of the day, that doesn’t matter unless we help our customers actually intervene and prevent that avoidable hospitalization or stop that fall and the related injury, or that opioid prescription for someone who might become addicted.”

After a lot of initial hype, there has been spotty deployment of AI in healthcare, and vendor promises have often involved “a lot of smoke and mirrors,” says Ryan Pretnik, director of analytics research at KLAS Research. “It created a sense of nervousness when (providers) would engage with an AI provider or solution provider.”

Watch Andrew, Ryan and HDM's Mitchell Josephson discuss the unique culture, vision, and approach to pleasing partners that make ClosedLoop the highest scoring software firm across all Best in KLAS market segments.
