The 20 EHR vendors with the most hospital implementations

The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology annually gathers data on which vendors have certified technology used by providers that are participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. Today’s list looks at hospital data from 2016; Health Data Management will publish a separate list detailing rankings for vendors providing EHR technology to physicians.

ONC reports that, as of July 2017, 186 certified health IT vendors supply certified IT to 4,520 non-federal acute care hospitals, including critical access hospitals, participating in the Medicare EHR Incentive Program. While most hospitals use only one vendor to participate, a sizable percentage of facilities use technology from more than one vendor to supply their electronic records needs.

The recent ONC data is compared with the agency’s 2016 report of hospital implementations of EHRs. The report covers health IT certified either according to criteria specified for the 2015, 2014 or 2011 edition of Health Information Technology Certification. Applications certified under either year's criteria can be used to attest to meaningful use.
